I'm registered! Clicked the check for volunteering in the Consuite and I might do something for the art show/auction.

I've got a roommate with a hotel reservation, and I've got reservations for my other hotels.

I'm stopping Wednesday night about 4 hours out from LAX, and will finish the drive in the morning. That gets me to the con hotel not completely exhausted going into the weekend. And I'm not driving through LA in the dark the last few hours of a 12 hour drive.

Monday night I'm planning to hit the Nat Hist Museum and maybe stop at the Science Center. Depends on what the exhibits are at the SC. I'll spend the night closer to my next stop.

Tuesday I'll hit my favorite craft store in Santa Clarita, then drive to Phoenix.

Wednesday in Phoenix I'll hit Ikea for the first time in nearly 2 years. Then I'll do the last 5-6 hours home.

I'm thinking about going. Turns out, it's only about half an hour longer a drive than going to Vegas. Although I might want to split it up so that I'm not doing LA traffic at night after 12 hours driving.

Should I go?

Anyone need a roommate?

I'm so freaking tired, and sore. And I lost blood because someone tried to rip my throat out when I was trying to put him in the carrier. S'more. Bandit went in the carrier fine, after he came out of hiding behind/under the dishwasher.

I have a house. And the first load of boxes is already stashed there and the second load is in my car to take over tomorrow.

Last dude is writing up his estimate and then I'll make decisions.

I am finally scheduled to close on my soon to be new house Monday at 2pm.

I'm thinking I might even put a load of boxes in the car before so I can drive from there straight to the house and start unloading.

I've also got one more estimate I want to get before making a decision on painters, plumbers, and misc. handyman stuff. I can schedule that for Monday afternoon too.

When you do some sort of home improvement/repair/replacement, post about it here, include price info, and tag it so I can find it. Yes, I also need to keep receipts, digital is better, but this should help.

This brought to you by an afternoon of digging through pictures and old LJ and DW posts trying to figure out when I did things to my house in Boulder City, and what they cost. I'm having my taxes done Monday morning and the tax guy wants all this stuff. Dude! I don't have receipts from stuff in another state 18 years ago!

I found some pictures of some things in the install process, so that gave me dates. And I found where I chattered about the estimate for the windows with an estimated time frame. Apparently I got my camera in 2009 because that's the earliest date in the metadata of pics. Which means I don't have anything from before then.

In other news, I am house hunting. It's the worst possible time to be doing it, but now's when I'm starting to be ready. It's complicated by my requirement that I be about 5 minutes or less from work. I also want to be west of the interstate so I don't have to cross it, and east of the train tracks so I don't have to cross them, and north of the southern main street because I don't like the neighborhood down there. I like the historic part of town which is close to work, and I like where I am which is the old Country Club area.

I'm less than a month away from my first anniversary at work, which will be the end of probation. And I'm applying for a new position they're creating that's mostly what I'm doing but supervising the other 2-3 people in the Ref team and doing that kind of stuff. Bottom of that pay scale is what I'll be making after probation ends, so it may or may not come with a pay raise, but the scale tops out higher than my current position. That would be helpful in a however many years. Worth a try.

I got moved. Signed my lease Feb 10th, my stuff got moved in Feb 11th in the snow, and the kitties and I got moved in the 12th. Caly came down with me to help with driving and so that someone would be in the hotel room with the cats so they didn't freak out. She flew home Feb 17th, was home for a couple of days before going to Escapade.

I had a couple of weeks to settle in before I started work March 2nd. The first three days were HR new employee orientation, the third day was Risk Management new employee orientation. That was the strangest day. We were supposed to start at 8, that's when a guy stuck his head out the office door and said he'd find out where we were supposed to go and brb. We got to the room at 8:02 and he said we were on break until 8:12. Risk Management is apparently short staffed, and people were out sick. The person who was supposed to teach us defensive driving called in sick at 7:45, so he was teaching us on 15 minutes notice in a room their tech didn't work in, while he was on call as the safety officer and receptionist for the day. He cut us loose for lunch an hour early, and we were supposed to be back at 1. Got back and 1 and there was a note on the door saying resume at 2. He had 4 calls to respond to while we were at lunch, 1 he didn't say, 2 were city employees in city vehicles who rear ended someone, one texting one on a phone call, and one trash truck fire. Then because we were starting late, he was skipping slides and hurrying so we finished an hour early. Then I had two days at the library before the weekend.

I had a full regular-ish week at the library, we were all nervous about covid-19 and watching all the other libaraies in the country close. We were open last Monday, and closed to the public Tuesday. We spent the rest of that week and yesterday doing behind the scenes stuff. I was weeding the 000s, 100s, and 200s, and washing shelves as I went. Now, today, all the staff are off until about the send week of April. But that date can and probably will change. Five manager will take turns going in a couple at a time to answer phones and check in books. The rest of us are off with full pay.

So I moved during a 'rare' snow storm, it's been raining since I got here (12th wettest March on record when we were a week into it), and now I've worked 21 calendar days and I'm off with pay for at least 2 weeks. Weirdest start to a new job EVER.

I'm pretty well settled in to the new place. I still need to finish unpacking/organizing my craft supplies, but apparently I have plenty of time. The boys are settled in, even skiddish Bandit is relaxed and mellow.

My house is rented to an older couple who sold their house in Vegas to move to quiet Boulder City. I'll be getting a crazy, yet very helpful, amount of money in rent. The goal is to put it all in savings, rebuild that and keep saving for repairs on it. Moving and getting a house cleaned up/repaired for someone else to move in is expensive! And the A/C on that house is about 20 years old, so it's going to die sooner than later I suspect.

Anyway, that's the update. If you're curious about anything ask in the comments.

I know, it's been years since I've posted. Here's the latest update...

Since I got out of the rehab hospital in April 2017 I've been working on getting stronger. In June of that year I got off oxygen, in August I finished PT and started volunteering with a local non-profit to keep busy. I've spent the last 3 years driving seniors and disabled folks to medical appointments. A year, year and a half ago, I felt like I was strong enough to start job hunting. I've been looking off and on since then.

In November, I did a phone interview with the City Library in Las Cruces,NM. Since then I've been waiting while they slowly worked through things on their end.

I'm officially announcing, I have a job in the Las Cruces City Library, I'm going to start end of Feb or early March.

I am at the head of the tail end of packing my house.

Everyone asks, I'm not selling my house. I"m going to keep it and hire a property manager to rent it out. Like everyone else, I think an extra $200K would be awesome!, but I don't NEED it right now. I'll hold onto the house and let it earn it's keep. And when I'm ready to retire, I can decide move back or sell then.

So, that's my life update.

Oh, health, I've been on warfarin for years, and the DVTs in my leg have dissolved. I'm off blood thinners!
